Marketing Internships: Explore Green Business

4GreenPs offers a fantastic internship program for college undergraduates and graduate students who are passionate about sustainability and using business to make the world a better place.  Interns work from our offices at the Bethesda Green center, on the red line metro, close to Washington, D.C.

Marketing Strategy Intern

The Marketing Strategy intern will work closely with the business owner and her business partner at Eco-Coach, Inc. on the:  
  • Continuation of strategy work for Integrated Sustainability Solutions (new product offering)
  • Development of presentation materials
  • Research on potential clients, competitors, & sustainability trends
  • May also assist with other strategy and marketing work related to growth of 4GreenPs

This is an ideal position for someone with looking to transition to the green sector and to learn about the ins and outs of running a small business. 

The ideal candidate will have the following attributes/skills:

  • Undergraduate degree, MBA students preferred 
  • Strong knowledge of CSR including experience with corporate or agency CSR and/or prior coursework in CSR
  • Marketing and strategy background
  • Strong research and writing skills
  • Nice to have: powerpoint design skills
  • Association with Net Impact
  • Marketing/sales/business development interests
  • Willingness to switch direction as necessary and be a bit of jack of all trades
  • Have a good sense of humor

Requested Start Date: Availability for work beginning in January 2013, with the potential to start immediately.

Hours per week:  5 to 10

Publishing/Design Intern

The Publishing/Design Intern will work closely with the business owner to:   

  • Develop blogging and editorial strategy
  • Development of collateral (writing and/or design) for use on company website and print materials
  • Content creation & management of social media accounts
  • Determine costs and timeline necessary to revamp website design to maximize identified opportunities and to better showcase content


NOTE: Potential exists to split this publishing internship into one or more internships, focused on business model vs. design vs. editorial.   

The ideal candidate will have the following attributes/skills:

  • Experience with social media and WordPress (required)
  • Excellent research, writing, and editing skills
  • Interest in design; Photoshop/illustration experience a plus
  • Good business judgment
  • Interest in sustainability, organic foods, and green business
  • Attention to detail
  • A good sense of humor
  • Willingness to switch direction as necessary and be a bit of a jack of all trades.

Requested Start Date: Availability for work beginning in January 2013, with the potential to start immediately.

Hours per week:  5 to 10

Accounting & Operations Intern

The Accounting & Operations Intern will work closely with the business owner to:  

  • Determine best roadmap for 4GreenPs as it relates to various women-owned business certifications (e.g. WOSB/WBENC), lead application process. 
  • Evaluate best cash management/line of credit programs. 
  • Contribute to financial and operations section of company‚Äôs business plan. 
  • Find opportunities for savings.

This is an ideal position for someone with solid financial skills looking to transition to the green sector and/or to learn about the ins and outs of running a small business. 

The ideal candidate will have the following attributes/skills:

  • Undergraduate degree, MBA students preferred 
  • Experience as public company staff accountant or accounting firm experience.
  • Prior experience assembling financial statements. 
  • Interest in renewable energy, sustainability, organic foods, and green business. 
  • Attention to detail but with a good sense of the big picture. 
  • A good sense of humor.
  • Ability to negotiate typical entrepreneurial challenges.
  • Willingness to switch direction as necessary and be a bit of jack of all trades.
